B79 was built by Mr. John Collins as a home project in his
driveway in Halifax. It was built using strip planking rather than
the traditional carvel planking common to the rest of the wooden fleet.
A number of private builders have expressed an interest in constructing
a strip plank Bluenose, but it is not known at this time whether others
have in fact been built. B79 was certainly the first wooden boat built
using alternate construction techniques to be given official standing
in the fleet.
